Akshay Kumar’s multi-starrer comedy ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ has witnessed yet another sharp decline at the Indian box office. The film, which entered its fourth week in theatres, saw a massive drop in collections on Friday, coinciding with the release of Christopher Nolan’s much-awaited epic ‘The Odyssey’, which has emerged as the new favorite for Indian moviegoers.
‘Welcome To The Jungle’ Box Office Collection Day 22
As per initial media estimates, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ collected just Rs 20 lakh on day 22, from around 738 shows in theaters nationwide. The latest figures take the film’s total Indian net collection to an estimated Rs 132.05 crore, while its India total is estimated to be Rs 156.89 crore.According to reports, the Fourth Friday Yatra has dropped by 60 percent from Thursday’s estimated Rs 50 lakh This drop also comes as the film nears the end of its theatrical run.
‘Welcome to the Jungle’ weekly collection
The film opened to a promising response, collecting around Rs 93 crore in its first week. However, it could not sustain the momentum in the following weeks. According to reports, the film, in its second week, saw a significant drop in collection to around Rs 31.90 crore, while the third week collection fell to single digits, contributing just Rs 6.80 crore. Now, with the film starting its fourth weekend on a low note with a collection of just Rs 20 lakh, it remains to be seen if it can maintain the momentum for the week ahead.
‘Welcome to the Jungle’ Worldwide Collection
Despite the slowdown in India, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ is on its way to the Rs 200 crore mark at the global box office. The film collected an estimated Rs 33.35 crore in the international market, taking its worldwide total to Rs 190.24 crore. It remains to be seen if the movie can add another Rs 10 crore to its collection this week before it gets ready for its OTT debut.
‘The Odyssey’ vs ‘Welcome to the Jungle’
The film’s box office slump can be attributed to the arrival of Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, which was released across India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The Hollywood epic made an impressive debut, earning around ₹20.76 crore and collecting an estimated ₹17.40 crore nett on its opening day. Driven by a strong hold in IMAX and premium formats, the film has dominated premium screens and multiplexes, attracting audiences who might otherwise opt for domestic releases.Notably, Nolan’s latest film ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ has also surpassed its own opening day box office collection, thus paving the way for it to become one of the top-performing Hollywood films in India.
