I will tell you that people have shared it so widely on WhatsApp and downloaded it so many times that I don’t think any film has appeared on people’s WhatsApp 10, 12 or even 15 times.”Jassi also questioned the decision to release the film in India, saying he did not believe its content warranted such a move.“I don’t understand why it was banned. There was nothing in the film that warranted a ban. If any government, agency or police department believes it portrays the police as helpless, I would say it’s not about helplessness, but about incompetence and gross misconduct,” he said.
The film remains at the center of controversy
Originally titled Punjab 95, Satluj is based on the life of human rights activist Jasbant Singh Khalra and has been at the center of controversy for several years.The film was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification in 2022 but was in the certification process for almost three years. Director Honey Trehan had earlier alleged that the CBFC sought 127 cuts before giving the certificate.The film was also scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023, but the screening was canceled after objections were raised by Indian authorities.Satluj starring Diljit Dosanjh, Kanwaljit Singh, Arjun Rampal, Subinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ahlian released on 3 July on ZEE5. It was later pulled from platforms in India, though Jassi claimed it was still reaching overseas audiences.
