Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, ‘Batwara 1947’ boasts of a star-studded ensemble including Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Preity Ji Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh. The project marks the much-awaited reunion of Santoshi and Sunny Deol after almost three decades of their successful collaboration.The film is being produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions. Its music is composed by AR Rahman, lyrics are written by Javed Akhtar. The screenplay is inspired by Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Bhekhya, O Jamya E Nai’, a work that has enjoyed popularity over the years.Interestingly, the film was originally announced as ‘Lahore 1947’ before the makers decided to rename it to ‘Batwara 1947’. Although it was initially expected to hit cinemas in 2025, the release schedule was delayed due to post-production requirements.The much-awaited period drama is now set to hit theaters on August 14, 2026, positioning it as one of the biggest releases of the Independence Day weekend.
