How Saif Ali Khan landed a role in ‘Cocktail’
In a recent conversation with Variety India, Saif Ali Khan revealed that the makers had already locked Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty for the film but were struggling to find their leading man. “They had Deepika and Diana, but they couldn’t get a hero to play the role, probably because the part of Veronica is so delicious,” said Saif, referring to Deepika’s iconic character.He also shared, “I remember some names they asked. I think they asked Imran (Khan) and they asked Ranveer (Kapoor). And they asked a few, and I said, ‘Okay, come on, I’ll do it.’ And I think they should all be very grateful. I did (laughs). This is my story. Yes, because I had great fun. I love Homi (Adazania). And we had a good time doing it.”
Ranbir Kapoor Deepika Padukone also advised against the film
Interestingly, Ranbir Kapoor himself turned down the role and advised Deepika Padukone to skip the project. The actress, however, trusted her instincts and delivered one of the most memorable performances of her career. After the release of the film, fans started calling her “Veronica” instead of Deepika. Ranbir Kapoor later admitted that his judgment about the film was wrong.
