Ravichandran Ashwin has questioned India’s continued omission Kuldeep Yadavwarning that the left-arm spinner’s prolonged absence from the XI could dent his confidence and rhythm.Kuldeep has once again been left out of India’s side for the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s on Sunday, despite the visitors missing out on two opening bowling options. Pace opener Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out with a knee injury, while all-rounder Washington Sundar is unavailable with a hamstring injury. However, the Indian team management opted for a fast attack consisting of four fast bowlers and only one specialist spinner in Axar Patel, keeping Kuldeep out.Reacting to the decision, former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his condolences for Kuldeep, suggesting that repeated lapses could adversely affect the spinner’s confidence.“The only defense for not playing Kuldeep is usually to bat at No. 7. I wonder how it feels to have Arshdeep at No. 8 today! Add to that Bumrah’s absence, one can only feel bad for Kuldeep. Trust me, it can affect a bowler’s pace and confidence,” Ashwin wrote on X.Kuldeep has now missed all three ODIs of India’s tour of England after being rested for the previous T20I series as well. His options have been limited in recent months, featuring in just one match during the home ODI series against Afghanistan, where he returned figures of 0/42 in Lucknow.India’s preference for Axar Patel and Washington Sundar is largely driven by the additional batting depth they provide, often pushing Kuldeep lower down the order regardless of his proven ability to take wickets in the 50-over format.
