He explained how the script went through various stages before it reached its final form. According to him, the narrative is misread online and draws unnecessary comparisons between the two actors.
The ‘Karuppu’ director explains how the project first took shape
At a recent fan interaction hosted by Sineulagam, Balaji elaborated on how the concept of ‘Karuppu’ initially took off. He said that the first version of the script was narrated by Vijay, which indirectly helped open up more professional opportunities.He explained the sequence of events behind the evolution of the project.“I initially described the film to Vijay sir and told him that the whole journey started with him.”He added that this initial description was not part of a final collaboration but nevertheless played an important role in shaping his next steps as a filmmaker.
Early descriptions led to extensive industrial access
RJ Balaji also explained that the connection established through early hearings of Vijay’s script helped him gain access to new production circles. He said this was the turning point that eventually led him to present the story to Suriya’s team.“I was able to reach Suriya sir because Vijay sir had already heard this story.”He added that producers who approached him later were already aware of the earlier narrative, which strengthened interest in the project. This, according to him, created a natural progression from one stage of development to another.
Balaji credits Suriya for shaping the final film
While describing the first journey, Balaji clarified that the entire film and its success belonged to Suriya. He emphasized that the final version of Karuppu and its audience reception was entirely shaped by Suriya’s involvement.“For the opening of the first door, it became the reason described to Vijay sir. It holds a special place somewhere in my mind and heart.”“We haven’t worked in any film together. Suriya sir actually made the film. Everything I have in my life today – the love I got, these life-changing moments – is because I did a film with Suriya sir. But the first door opened because people wanted to know the story I told Vijay sir.”
Clarification on meeting and response to Vijay
Balaji also talked about meeting Vijay after the success of ‘Karupu’. She described the interaction as emotionally significant and said it felt like completing a personal cycle.“After the pooja we did for Karupura at the Masani Amman temple, I felt that the journey would be complete if I went back to express my gratitude.
