On June 25, director Uwe Boll took to his X account (formerly known as Twitter) and shared the full film on the platform. He revealed that the clip will be live on his account for a full 48 hours, causing quite a stir online. Not only that, but the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, also supported Bowl’s project. ‘Citizen Vigilante’ banned in Germany
The film did not receive audience ratings in Germany, which resulted in the film being banned for its controversial depiction of violence against immigrants. Addressing the matter in an interview with The Telegraph, the director weighed in and shared that they (the official board) refused to rate the film.He added at the time, “The rating system refused to give us a rating, so now you can only see it if you get it on Blu-ray from Austria or Switzerland. And I think they did that on purpose. It was a deliberate censorship decision. I hired a lawyer to complain about it, but we lost six to two, because I was told the film was against violence against immigrants.”Furthermore, talking about the project, Ball added, “I know there’s been a lot of interest and response in America. At the moment in Europe, people are shying away from making these kinds of hard political movies, but I’ve always tried to smuggle politics into genre movies.” It’s not a documentary, it’s a thriller and I hope the audience responds to it.”
