National Award-Winning Actress Suhasini Mull Marries Renowned Physicist At 60: 'People Judged Me Just Like When I Didn't Get Married Young'

the actor Suhasini rootKnown for his memorable performances in films like ‘Lagaan’, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Jodha Akbar’, among many others found love when he least expected it. After spending decades refusing to settle for anything less than a truly equal partnership, he finally married for the first time at age 60. Her life partner is renowned scientist Atul Gurtu, whom she met through an unlikely platform, Facebook. Suhasini She opened up about how she found love at 60 and then got married for the first time.“I got married for the first time at the age of 60. Till then, I didn’t find the right match. My husband is a very well-known scientist. When he talks about science, I don’t understand a thing, but he is a wonderful person,” she said in an interview with Suhana Safar. The story began when a co-star encouraged him to join Facebook, essentially to stay connected and explore professional opportunities. What she didn’t expect was that the platform would eventually introduce her to her future husband.Recalling their first interaction during a conversation on actress Sulekha Talwalkar’s YouTube channel, Suhasini said, “I looked at Atul’s profile and thought, ‘Physicists are on Facebook too?’ He was working at the Large Hadron Collider. Since I’ve always been interested in science, I sent him a message saying, ‘What’s the LHC?'” What started as a casual exchange soon turned into a regular email conversation. During that conversation, Atul subtly hinted that he was looking for a life partner. “He never proposed directly, but he hinted. When I realized he was looking for someone, I laughed to myself. I thought, ‘When I haven’t found the right person in 60 years, how am I suddenly going to find him now?'”Suhasini was wary of the number of fake profiles online. He sought advice from a close friend when Atul asked for her phone number.“My friend told me that at this age, the options just dwindle. Don’t close the door before you even open it. If you don’t like him, you can always move on. There’s no harm in trying. When Atul asked for my number, I told him, ‘Good girls don’t give their phone numbers to strangers.’ On the Internet, it’s not about who you meet; It’s about what you see. People create fake profiles all the time.”Determined to verify his identity, she cross-checked information on his Facebook profile, including details of the company he worked for. All agreed. Even then, he was wary of meeting her in person. Their first meeting, which was planned earlier, finally took place around Diwali. Suhasini admits that she was late on purpose.“I wanted to make sure he looked like the person in the photograph before I met him.” Once they met, things moved surprisingly quickly. The pair talked for hours and quickly realized they shared a strong connection. “We met at the end of November and talked extensively. We were married by January 16. Once we decided, there was no point in waiting.”When Suhasini tells her mother that she has finally found someone, the news comes as a shock. “He called back to confirm what he had heard. Finally, she told her daughter, ‘You have found a wise man,'” recalls Suhasini. What impressed his mother even more was Atul’s answer when she asked him why he wanted to get married at 60. “He said, ‘Suhasini has been single all her life and can continue to be. I can be single too. But I want to give Sukh a chance. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll just admit we made a mistake.’ “When we went to register our marriage, the official assumed I had come to collect an old marriage certificate. The official then looked at the couple and asked, “You and uncle?” The split left them both. Reflecting on the criticism she faced for getting married at 60, Suhasini noted that people judged her just as much when she decided not to marry at her young age.“When you’re a celebrity, people feel they have the right to judge every decision you make. When I was 26, my mother asked if I wanted to get married. I said no. She respected my decision but warned me that I was taking a difficult path.”Suhasini has been married to Atul for the past 15 years.
