Melanie Sykes shared an inspiring selfie on Instagram on June 28, wearing a white tank top and a wide smile. The ‘Shop Well for Less’ star captioned the post, “Loss + Gain = Life,” adding The Duelers’ song ‘Got That Smile’. Although she has previously opened up about severe hair loss, she shared a post with no hair.Previously, Sykes shared that she was trying out different wigs as her hair loss worsened over time. “As much as I love using my headscarf, I can’t wait to get some hair,” she wrote in the May 13, 2026, post, before adding, “My hair has been coming out so fast the past few weeks and even at this stage (I’ve been losing hair for about a year and a half) it can feel alarming.”
About Melanie Sykes’ diagnosis
Melanie Sykes initially opened up about her diagnosis last year, detailing pain and recovery treatments. “I have an autoimmune condition, I’m losing my hair, I have constant inflammation, and I’m working on healing,” she said, and continued, “In the last three months, I’ve done a meditation teacher training course.” Talking about hair loss, the presenter said, “I’m really two-thirds bald.” Every time I say I’m bald, I smile, I don’t know why… Thank God I can smile.”
What is Alopecia?
According to the Cleveland Clinic, alopecia is an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss anywhere on the body. It usually affects the hair on the skin covering the head (scalp). Medicines and therapy can help restore hair, but severe cases may not respond to treatment.
