Elisha Cuthbert revealed that she stepped away from acting for four years to focus on her family. The actor said that it was difficult for her to balance work and motherhood after continuing to film during the first year of raising her first child. When she had her second child, Cuthbert decided to stop her career and spend more time at home. He is now returning to the screen with Prime Video’s upcoming series ‘Every Year After’.According to ANI, Cuthbert spoke about his hiatus during a recent appearance on the ‘Today’ show. The ’24’ and ‘The Girl Next Door’ actor says being a mother has made her reevaluate how she views work and the time she wants to spend away from her children.

Cuthbert said she worked for the first four years of her eldest child’s life. Looking back, he said it was difficult to separate his responsibilities as a parent from his life as an actor.“I realized I worked four years through our first child,” Cuthbert said. “And it was hard to separate that mother from the worker I was.”She and her husband, former NHL player Dion Phaneuf, share two children. After welcoming their second child, Cuthbert said she wanted to be fully present at home.“So, when we had the second one, I was like I don’t want to waste a second of it and I don’t want to be on set,” she said.The actor added, “I felt I needed to be at home with my kids and I enjoyed every minute.”Cuthbert’s last major lead role before hiatus was in the Netflix comedy series ‘The Ranch’. He also appeared in the 2022 crime film Dasoo.
‘Every Year After’ marks the return of Elisha Cuthbert
Cuthbert said her children are now in school full time, which has helped her feel ready to work again. “They’re in school full time now,” she said. “I feel like I have the space and the energy and the heart to let go and do it.”His comeback came with ‘Every Year After’ based on Carle Fortune’s novel ‘Every Summer After’. Cuthbert plays Sue Florek, Sam and Charlie’s mother.He said he had never read Fortune’s book before joining the series. But after reading the novel, he became a fan. “It’s crazy because I’ve never read any of Carly’s books and then I came on the show,” Cuthbert said. “Of course there was the script, but I wanted to read the novel. And then I thought, ‘Oh, I’m a superfan now’.”Cuthbert said the series felt like the right project for her to return to acting.
