Saif Ali Khan will reunite with Akshay Kumar in Priyadarshan’s ‘Haiwan’ to play the Indian version of a blind samurai. Calling it his most exciting role, Saif praised working with Priyadarshan, comparing him to Clint Eastwood. He also mentioned that Kumar’s negative role adds a new twist to their long-standing on-screen chemistry.

Although visually impaired, the character is exceptionally capable, able to sense things, fight, catch a ball, and protect a young woman. Saif found it interesting to create the physicality of the role without feeling exaggerated.

In a conversation with Variety India, Khan said, “It was something completely new for me. More importantly, it’s a character written for the audience to really feel, which I didn’t really have much of, for whatever reason. I’m really happy that I got the role. It was amazing to work with Priyadarshan sir. It reminded me. Clint Eastwood. Very economical and sure of what he wanted. We rarely took more than one. I like to accept things, but you adapt to who you’re working with. It was interesting to be fully prepared for that first take and somehow it really worked.”

Khan reunited with Akshay Kumar again in ‘Haywaan’, having previously worked with him in films like ‘Yeh Dillagi’ (1994), ‘Maya Khiladi Tu Anari’ (1994), ‘Kimaat’ (1998), ‘Arju’ (1999) and ‘Tashaan’ (2008). This time, though, Khan says Kumar’s role has added a new twist to their on-screen chemistry. “It’s great that he’s playing this character in this movie. It makes it more exciting… kind of a dangerous, negative character. I don’t see him doing that very often. In the past, we had great chemistry. I love Akshay… He is like an elder brother to me. We have a very special bond as we have seen each other since day one. We go all the way back. During the shooting of the film, Priyan sir used to say, ‘You are behaving like naughty children.’ Akshay said, ‘I don’t know, he brought it out in me,’ and I said, ‘You’re talking nonsense.’ When we’re alone, we’re a little bit more mature, I think.”

Their off-screen bond may remain the same, but ‘Highwon’ brings a new dimension to their on-screen dynamic. Khan shared, “This film doesn’t depend on that kind of chemistry and comedy, which is also good because I think it had its time and it’s not make-or-break. This character is a dream come true for me. I can’t wait to see how it pans out.”
