You have to because the odds are so long against you,” Damon explained in the interview. “I think Ben and I reinforced each other when we were kids. We were teenagers, and we’d come down here to New York on the train or bus to audition some stuff for the Mickey Mouse Club.“He elaborates on what differentiates their support system from typical family support. “We were the only people who believed in each other. We had family, but they weren’t in the entertainment business. We were the only people who felt like we had a little foot in the door who said, ‘Yeah, you’re going to make it,'” Damon said. “And I think you need to have that kind of gritty mindset to go through this life because it’s a bit of a circus life and it’s not a normal way to go.“
