Young Indian left-arm bowler Sree Charani has become the world number one bowler in the women’s T20I category after an excellent run in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup. The 21-year-old climbed to the top of the ICC rankings after claiming 10 wickets in just three matches, making her the tournament’s leading wicket-taker so far.Charani’s rise is one of the biggest success stories of the World Cup. After making her international debut just over a year ago, she has quickly established herself as a key member of India’s bowling attack. Her recent performances against the Netherlands and South Africa have helped her overtake England spinner Linsey Smith at the top of the rankings.The Indian spinner’s biggest contribution came in back-to-back matches. She took four wickets against the Netherlands in Leeds before following up with three wickets against South Africa in Manchester. Those match-winning displays earned her enough ranking points to become the highest-ranked bowler in women’s T20I cricket.While Charani moved up to No.1, England’s Charlie Dean moved up to No.2 after taking five wickets in his first three World Cup matches. Former number one bowler Sophie Ecclestone also moved up, moving up to fourth.The batting order remained largely unchanged at the top, with Australia’s Georgia Voll holding on to the top spot. Beth Mooney remained second, while India’s Shafali Verma moved up to sixth and captain Harmanpreet Kaur made the top 10.In the all-rounder rankings, the West Indies captain Hayley Matthews she continued to lead the table ahead of New Zealander Melia Kerr. Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu climbed to third place, while Pakistan captain Fatima Sana and Ireland’s Orla Prendergast also made progress. South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp also enjoyed a strong week, moving up to ninth after an impressive performance against India.
