NEW DELHI: Indian all-rounder Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the rest of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup after sustaining a right ankle injury during the Group A match against Netherlands at Headingley. The injury happened on the first ball of the sixth over when Shreyanka twisted her ankle while driving the ball towards mid-on. She immediately grabbed her ankle in pain, and in the end she was carried off the field on a stretcher while her teammates and medical staff came to help. The setback was particularly painful for Shreyanka, who only recently returned to international cricket after spending a long time on the sidelines due to yet another injury. Taking to social media, the no-longer off-spinner bowler spoke openly about her disappointment and thanked her fans for their support.“Well, not every dream comes true. No injury is easy, but this one hit the hardest. But these past few days, I’ve been blown away by the love I’ve received. I’ve seen so many messages, so many edits and reels, and I really appreciate them all,” Shreyanka wrote on her social media accounts on Saturday.“I know I have enough of you wishing me well to get through this. Not all dreams come true, but I won’t stop dreaming! And like I said last year, “heartbroken, but I’ll fly again.”Shreyanka featured in India’s win over Pakistan earlier in the tournament and remained an important player due to her ability to bowl left-handers and deliver runs effectively in the death overs. Her performances for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League also highlighted her value.India brought in leg-spinner all-rounder Prem Rawat as a replacement. However, the team management could also turn to left-armer Radha Yadav or change the tempo of the attack ahead of the crucial Group A clash against South Africa at Old Trafford on Sunday.
