Senior star‘Deul Band 2’ has become a huge box office success in Marathi cinema. According to Saknilk, the film collected around Rs 81.78 crore at the box office. The stars of the film Snehal Tarade along with Mohan Joshi among othersAlthough the film was a huge hit, director Pravin Tarde gave it a huge credit Shah Rukh Khan For this and said he waived a bill of Rs 42-45 lakhs, which reduced the film’s budget, it eventually became a hit. Tarde shared that the makers have approached Shah Rukh Khan’s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, for a Digital Cinema Package (DCP), the format required to screen the film in theatres. Although they had initially budgeted around Rs 12 lakh for the process, they were shocked to learn that the actual cost would be closer to Rs 42 lakh.Recalling the situation, Wired said in a conversation with Elite Marathi Filmi, “The bill came to Rs 42 lakh. We didn’t have that kind of money, nor did we have any sources from where we could arrange it. We went to Red Chillies and explained our situation. We told them that it was a Marathi film, a regional film, and our budget was limited. But we wanted to request a bigger release.”The matter eventually reached Shah Rukh Khan, who reportedly took a personal interest in the matter. Tarde revealed that the superstar first checked with his technical team, who informed him that the image is from the makers of ‘Mulshi Pattern’. As ‘Mulshi Pattern’ was later remade in Salman Khan’s ‘Antim’, Shah Rukh was already familiar with their work.“He asked his technical team about the matter. They told him it was a film by the makers of Mulshi Pattern. Since Mulshi Pattern was later remade by Salman Khan as Anthem, Shahrukh was aware of our work. Then he asked about Deol Band 2. His team told him that it was a well-made emotional film and the makers wanted DCP, but DCP cost, but ‘DCP’ was ready. Handed over because dues was pending,” shared Tarde.According to the filmmaker, Shah Rukh’s reaction was simple and immediate.“He simply said, ‘Waive their bill.’ He told them, ‘This is a Marathi film. Give them DCP. We can sort out the payment later. If the film is good, give DCP.’ They showed immense respect for Marathi cinema. Films were more important to him than money. I credit all these people for the film’s success.”Tarde said the gesture had a lasting impact on him as the help came at a time when no one knew whether the film would succeed or fail at the box office.“Today, the film is heading towards the 100 crore club and everyone is appreciating it. But Shahrukh Khan will always be remembered when the film was nothing, when nobody knew if it would work. He helped us without any guarantee of success. I will be forever grateful to him.”The filmmaker expressed his desire to personally screen the film for Shah Rukh Khan as a token of gratitude.
