Tanishq Bagchir’s ‘Sayara’ royalty claim draws response from YRF, studio says all dues cleared

A year after ‘Sayara’ emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema Ahan Pandey And Anit Padda Among the overnight stars, the film returned to the spotlight for a different reason. Music composer Tanisk Bagchi He alleged that despite massive success across music streaming platforms, he is still waiting for a royalty payment of Rs 8 lakh for the film’s title track. The composer took to Instagram to share a detailed note, saying the issue is not about seeking public sympathy but about highlighting the value of creative work in the music industry.Recalling his work experience Mohit Suri On the director, Tanishq revealed that ‘Sayara’ marked his first collaboration with him YRF Entertainment and YRF Music. According to him, he took up the project because he believed in his music and fully invested himself in bringing the title track to life.“This was my first film with @yrfentertainment @yrfmusic… I agreed to everything because I believe in music. I gave everything I had to this song. From production to working with lyricists and singers, recording, vocals, sound, every detail is important to me. I considered it my own. Whatever was paid for YR, whatever amount was used for YR. The mix… which was zero, Yes, that’s what I got from such a big song,” he wrote.Tanishq further claimed, “The most distressing thing is, as per the royalty statement, I have yet to receive a royalty of just Rs 8 lakh for a song that has millions of streams and views across platforms. To be honest, the amount of work, time and passion I have put into this song seems to have earned me a royalty of Rs 8 lakh. It has earned a lot.”

YRF responded to Tanishq Bagchi’s claim

Following Tanishq Bagchir’s social media posts, Yash Raj Films ‘Sayara’ issued an official statement addressing the composer’s complaint regarding royalty payments for the title track.A YRF spokesperson said, “The Saiyara title track was a beautiful collaboration between the three composers (Tanishq Bagchi with Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami). We are deeply grateful for their brilliance in creating a timeless song that touched a million hearts.” The royalties for the title track have been split and YRF will share equally among the three composers as contractually agreed by all including Tanishq. YRF paid their dues to each associate as per the agreement within the mutually agreed terms and timing.”The statement came after Tanishq claimed that he is yet to receive Rs 8 lakh in royalty payments for the chart-topping title track. YRF, however, maintained that all payments have been made as per the contract agreement signed by all the three composers and will continue to be distributed equally as stipulated in future royalty agreements.

The composer clarified that his post was not intended to garner sympathy but to shed light on the realities faced by musicians behind successful projects.“I’m not writing this for sympathy. I’m writing this because I know what I put into this song, and I know the sacrifices I made to bring it to life… This experience has changed the way I look at this industry. From now on, I will only work with producers and directors who value creativity, integrity and the people who make their music,” he wrote.Reflecting on the aftermath of the film’s success, he added, “One thing I’ve learned is that sometimes you give people your all, and when success comes, they forget who stood by them. However, I leave the rest to God. Time tells every story, and action settles every account. The only person I respect in this whole film is @mohitsuri and @difficial because of this film…”

The title track of ‘Sayara’ is composed by Tanisq Bagchi along with Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami. Written by Irshad Kamil and sung by Faheem Abdullah, the song became the biggest chartbuster of the year.Released in July last year, ‘Saiyara’ collected Rs 577 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing romantic film in Indian cinema and one of the biggest hits of the year.
