Several members of the film industry have extended their support to the Telapoka Janata Party (CJP) youth-led protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, where students are demanding accountability for NEET irregularities and broader education reforms. As the protests intensified during the monsoon session, actors Sonu Sood, Veer Das, Dia Mirza, Soha Ali Khan, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aayush Sharma, Rohit Saraf, Prakash Raj, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh publicly expressed solidarity with the protesters.The rally, organized under the banner of ‘Sansad Chalo’, later witnessed clashes between protesters and security personnel as the protesters tried to move towards Parliament.
Sonu Sood calls Samabedna
Reacting to the development, Sonu Sood urged the authorities to respond with compassion instead of force. Sharing a message on Instagram Stories, he wrote, “Our students don’t need lathis (sticks), they need hands who hug them (sic).”
Vir Das urges artists to speak up
Actor-comedian Veer Das appealed to co-actors not to remain silent as the youth continued to protest. In her Instagram post, she wrote, “If you are an Indian live artist. I hope you realize the sheer hypocrisy of not speaking up for the youth and then trying to sell them tickets (sic).”Das continued, “It’s the sheer luxury of being a silent spectator to what an Indian public cares about, and then expecting an Indian public to be loud and vocal and take care of you. Apna apna seeh lo, lekin mere pahunch jana (Look at yourself, but make sure you’re there for me). Supporting the youth in India’s economy doesn’t work (in the gy-economy).”Explaining why he believes the issue goes beyond politics, Veer added, “I realized that ‘you’re not political’ is the subtext of ‘I’m really comfortable’. I always see those statements and think, are you dude. But today, humbly, I submit to you that this issue is no longer political or partisan. It’s just to help the youth, and they can now care about your platform. You (sic).“
Aditi Rao Hydari insists on dialogue
Aditi Rao Hydari has called for compassion and respectful dialogue in response to the ongoing protests. “Regardless of one’s political preferences, humanity must come first,” his Instagram post read.He also wrote, “We must ensure a safe environment built on respect, dignity and compassion for all our courageous students and for all determined voices to be heard with a true commitment to constructive dialogue. Listening to each other is the foundation of meaningful progress. Our students are our future (sic).”
Mirza condemned the use of force
Dia Mirza criticized the use of force against protesters, saying the day’s events reflected deep concern about the treatment of peaceful protesters. He wrote, “Today is a day that revealed many truths. A day thousands of people showed up to mark their protest demanding accountability, transparency and reform for the education system (sic).”Continuing his statement, the actor added, “A day when forces tasked with protecting citizens used brutal force on them, including women and children, in response to their peaceful protest. Hopeful and angry (sic).”
Soha Ali Khan praised the fearless youth
Expressing solidarity with the students, Soha Ali Khan applauded the young generation for raising their voices. He wrote, “The future belongs to the youth. May they always have the freedom to question, the courage to speak and the space to protest peacefully. Jai Hind (sic).”
Ayush Sharma and Rohit Saraf extended the support
Supporting the protest, Ayush Sharma highlighted the importance of listening to citizens in a democracy. He said, “The sign of a healthy democracy is not voting, but the voice of its people. Whether students or any citizen of the country raise their voice, it should be heard, not suppressed. Today the government has dialogue with the students. Victory to all those who stand bravely in Jantar Mantra.“Meanwhile, Rohit Saraf praised the resilience of the participants in the movement.Sharing his thoughts, he wrote, “Today was a gut punch, but I know one thing..not just our nation, the whole world is listening. It’s the sound of a future that feels bright (sic) despite today’s uncertainty.”
Demonstrations demanding education reforms
The protest was organized to coincide with the commencement of the monsoon session of Parliament. Protesters have demanded nationwide education reforms and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over allegations of NEET exam irregularities.Clashes broke out between protesters and security personnel as the procession moved towards Parliament.
Memorandum submitted to JP Nadda
A delegation representing the CJP later met Union Health Minister JP Nadda and submitted a memorandum outlining three major demands. These include the immediate release of activist Sonam Wangchuk from hospital care, Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation and compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of NEET candidates who allegedly committed suicide after the examination paper was leaked.
More celebrities joined the movement
Actor Prakash Raj also participated in CJP’s ‘Chalo Sangsad’ march in Delhi. While addressing the rally, he waved a copy of the constitution while expressing support to students over the alleged NEET irregularities.
