NEW DELHI: The Sooryavanshi household of Motipur village in Tajpur, Samastipur (Bihar) already has one cricketing sensation in Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Now another young man in the family is starting to attract attention – 10-year-old Ashirvad Sooryavanshi.Vaibhav’s younger brother has already given a glimpse of what might lie ahead. In his first match for the Tajpur Cricket Academy, Ashirvad, who started playing cricket just six months ago, smashed 103 runs off just 87 balls in the practice match. His innings was studded with 20 fours and a six.The blunder may have occurred in local cricket, but it quickly reached a much wider audience after Vaibhav, who is currently representing India A in the tri-series in Sri Lanka, shared a screenshot of his younger brother’s scoreboard on social media. The post immediately drew attention to the 10-year-old and sparked curiosity about another young cricketer from the Sooryavanshi family.

ONLY SIX MONTHS OF TRAINING
What makes Ashirvad’s century incredible is that he played cricket for just six months. The youngster quickly adapted to the game and wasted little time making an impression.“Ashirvad abhi 6 mahina pehle to start hi kiya hai. Bat handling, posture karna jaldi seekh gaya (Ashirvad started playing cricket only six months ago but quickly learned the basics of bat handling and posture),” Chandra Deep, Ashirvad’s coach and the man who runs the Tajpur Cricket Academy, told the Times of India. com in an interview. The coach believes the younger Sooryavanshi is showing signs of following a similar path to his elder brother.
“Wo kahawat ki bade miyaan to bade miyaan, chhote miyaan subhanallah. Bas wahi samajh lijiye. Dono bhai, dono tabaahi”

SAME SOIL, SAME DREAM
Ashirvad’s cricketing journey began at the same place where Vaibhav’s dreams first took shape.Right behind the family house, there are two practice fields – one concrete and one clay. On these surfaces, Vaibhav spent countless hours perfecting his skills as a child. Today, Ashirvad trains on the same ground, following a familiar path.

According to coach Chandra Deep, the contrasting surfaces provide very different challenges and have played a key role in shaping Vaibhav’s game. Now, the younger brother is going through the same process.“Cement offers more pace. On clay, the ball swings, spins and spins, but also has a lot of grip, making hitting much harder. Vaibhav has been practicing on these surfaces since he was young and now Ashirvad is doing the same,” he said.
NOT A COPY OF VAIBHAV SOORYAVANSHI
Comparisons between the two brothers are inevitable, but Ashirvad is far from being a mirror image of Vaibhav. While Vaibhav is a left-arm batsman who can bowl, Ashirvad is a right-arm and right-arm medium pacer. In fact, the youngster sees himself as a versatile player.

Asked if Ashirvad reminds him of any current cricketer, the selector came up with an interesting comparison.
“Vaibhav was gifted with the swing of the bat. But Ashirvad chose his own path. We once asked him what he wanted to become and he said an all-rounder. Hardik Pandya jaisa dikhta hai ye. Batting mein bhi hai. Bowling mein bhi”

LEARNS BY WATCHING OLDER BROTHER
Ashirvad spent hours watching Vaibhav train. Whether at home or during training, he watched his elder brother closely and gradually became interested in cricket.According to Chandra Deep, Ashirvad is a quiet kid who prefers to focus on his game rather than talk too much.
“He says, ‘I want to play like my brother and work just as hard.’ Vaibhav inspired him a lot”

Perhaps no one celebrates Vaibhav’s success as passionately as Ashirvad. During Vaibhav’s magnificent IPL The 2026 season, in which he scored 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30, and during his exploits in the Under-19 World Cup, the younger brother would celebrate with chocolates at home.Whenever Vaibhav’s matches are televised, Ashirvad makes sure he is glued to the screen.
DRIVES AND LOVE OF FISH
Like most young cricketers, Ashirvad has a favorite stroke – cricket. His daily routine revolves around cricket, with physical training in the morning followed by long shots. And when the cricket is done, there is one thing he enjoys more than anything else – fish.Like their cricket, the two brothers also differ in their choice of food. While Vaibhav was known for his love of mutton growing up, Ashirvad cannot live without fish.“Machhli isko bahut pasand hai. Isko khane ke saath chahiye,” the coach said.

HE WANTS TO WATCH HIS BROTHER HIT A CENTURY
As Vaibhav has already been selected in the Indian T20I squad for the England and Ireland tour and Asian games team – becoming the youngest player to achieve the feat – the spotlight is slowly starting to turn towards his younger brother. But for now, Ashirvad is simply a 10-year-old who loves watching his older brother bat.

With the family all set to travel to the UK, the youngster can barely contain his excitement. More than anything, he wants to see Vaibhav personally score a century.“Ye UK jaa raha hai family ke saath, bahot khush hai. Kehta hai bhaiya ko century maarte hue dekhna hai,” the coach signed off.For the Sooryavanshis, the dream that began in two modest fields behind their house may just be beginning its second chapter.
