According to the actress, yoga helped Rangoli regain confidence and reconnect with the world after years of physical and mental challenges.
Long struggle of Rangoli after attack
Rangoli Chandel was a victim of an acid attack at the age of just 21. The incident left him severely injured and requiring multiple surgeries over the years.Recalling the painful period, Kangana wrote, “Rangoli has the most inspiring yoga story – a roadside Romeo threw acid on Rangoli when she was 21, got third degree burns, half of her face was burnt, one eye lost her sight, one ear melted and one breast severely damaged, but at 52-3 years she had to go through the biggest worry. Did her mental health stop her talking, yes whatever.” No matter what happens he doesn’t say a word just stares blankly at everything [sic]”The actress revealed that while doctors focused on Rangoli’s physical recovery, her mental well-being became an equally important concern for the family.
A family struggles through trauma
Kangana explained that the attack affected every aspect of Rangoli’s life. She recalled how her sister was withdrawn from silence and struggled to respond even after receiving medical care and counselling.Sharing more details, she wrote, “She was engaged to an air force officer and when he saw her face after an acid attack she left and never came back, still she didn’t shed a tear or utter a word, doctors told me she was in shock, they gave her therapy and drugs for mental help but nothing helped. I had a hard time with my teacher who was 19. Narayan and she had no idea that it was burns and mental. Retinal transplants in trauma patients can also help with recovery and vision loss.”The actress said she was still very young and was looking for ways to help her sister heal.
How Yoga Became a Turning Point
According to Kangana, she started taking Rangoli with her to yoga classes. Over time, she began to notice a positive change in her sister’s behavior and attitude.Describing the transformation, Kangana wrote, “I desperately wanted her to talk to me, so I took her with me everywhere, even to my yoga classes. She started practicing yoga and I saw a dramatic transformation in her. Not only did she start responding to her pain and my lame jokes but she also regained her lost vision in one eye…Yoga gives you answers to every question yet?”
