A Brazilian woman accused of repeatedly stalking BTS member Jungkook has been given a suspended prison sentence by a South Korean court and could now face deportation from the country.A Seoul district court sentenced the woman, whose identity has not been released, to one year in prison, suspended for two years, after repeatedly visiting the K-pop star’s residence despite multiple warnings from authorities. According to court proceedings, the woman began visiting Jungkook’s residence in December last year, claiming her actions were motivated by ‘love for the singer’.
The stalker rang Jungkook’s doorbell 133 times
According to a BBC report, prosecutors said he repeatedly visited Jungkook’s home in Seoul and tried to leave letters and photos at the property, ignoring police orders. The report also alleged that in one incident he was seen ringing the singer’s doorbell 133 times.The court said the woman exhibited an “extreme level of obsession”.
The stalker left the letter at Jankuk’s residence
Authorities said the woman first went to Jungkook’s residence on Dec. 7, where she hid outside the property, threw things over the wall and pushed letters through the door. Despite receiving warnings, he returned a few days later and repeatedly rang the doorbell.On Dec. 13, he was arrested for allegedly following a food delivery worker through a side entrance to try to enter the property. The next day he was released with a warning not to approach the residence again.
Stalker ignores restraining order
However, prosecutors said he ignored the warning and continued to visit the area. According to reports, this prompted the police to issue an emergency ban preventing them from coming within 100 meters of Jungkook’s house.Still, he continued his visits to the property, about 22 times in total.In handing down the sentence, the judge noted that the defendant’s risk of reoffending was deemed “not significant,” leading to a suspended prison sentence. In addition to the sentence, the woman will be deported from South Korea unless she successfully appeals the verdict.The ruling comes a year after another shocking incident involving a stalker made waves online. In June last year, a 30-year-old Chinese woman was arrested in Seoul after she allegedly tried to break into Jungkook’s home hours after he finished his mandatory military service.
