Javed Jaffery says the rumor took on a life of its own
Talking about the longstanding misconception, Javed shared that many people believe that he has stepped in as Sanjay Dutt’s double because they match his dance style. However, he clarified that the performance is entirely Sanjay Dutt’s.Recalling the incident, Javed said, “You know, in ‘Tamma Tamma’ there was a rumor ki mai duplicate kya hai Sanju ko. Sanju ne bichere ne itni mehnat karke oh nach kya tha aur log ne bola, ‘Are yeh Sanju na hai.”(You know, there was a rumor that I copied Sanju’s style. Poor Sanju worked incredibly hard to do that dance, and yet people said, ‘Oh, that’s not Sanju’s original style.)

Reacting to Javed’s memoir, Urmila Matondkar shares her perspective on why the rumor has been so widely accepted. According to him, Javed introduced a style of dance that the audience had rarely seen before. His movements and screen presence were so distinctive that people naturally associated his impressive dance performances with him.Sharing her thoughts, Urmila said, “Kyuki inhone job, ‘Bol baby bol rock n roll’ kiya tha toh jain oh aye de, to tote ud gaye de, because is tarah ka nach kisi ne dokha hi na tha. Kai barson ke bad tarah ki a choreography dan. Aur mujhe lagta hai kavi-kavi adhi choreography inhone khud hi ki hogi paar ye unki style hai.”(Because when he did ‘Bole Baby Bowl Rock n Roll’ and made his appearance, everyone was totally blown away, because no one had seen that kind of dance before. That kind of choreography and dance style came years later.
