As the administration raised hopes for a system free from corruption and bribery, Senu Ramasamy urged the government to also focus on long-term policy changes that would benefit filmmakers, artistes and cinema lovers across the state.
The director listed six major demands to the government
Starting his appeal, Senu Ramasamy wrote, “I would like to make six important requests to the Hon’ble Chief Minister-led government. Joseph VijayHis first demand was to establish government-run theaters on the model of Kerala’s KSFDC. “Small-budget films with good stories often struggle to get theatres. Government theaters can become a lifeline for such films,” he said. He called for the introduction of film appreciation courses in schools and colleges, adding that “the youth should learn to understand cinema as an art form and not just entertainment.“
Global Film Conference and Call for Facilitation Shooting allowed
The director also offered that Tamil Nadu Organized a world film conference like the World Tamil Conference, saying it would create opportunities for collaboration between Tamil filmmakers and international producers. He also requested to introduce a single-window online approval system for shooting films at heritage and cultural sites. “An online permission process can reduce unnecessary delays, eliminate bureaucratic hurdles and eliminate opportunities for bribery,” he said. Also, Senu Ramasamy appealed for a dedicated government grant for independent films similar to schemes available in places like London and Maharashtra to encourage filmmakers without star-backed projects.
Senu Ramasamy wants speedy welfare measures for artistes
Concluding his message, Senu Ramasamy urged the government to expedite the long-pending housing schemes announced for members of the Directors’ Association and financially struggling artistes. “Promised houses should reach the eligible beneficiaries without further delay,” he wrote. Expressing optimism about the new administration, the filmmaker added, “I believe this government will not only eradicate corruption but also bring in policy reforms that will improve the industry and cinema.” Senu Ramasamy’s proposals have raised a lot of controversy among members of the film community and many hope that they will be seriously considered in the coming months.
