His performances earned him the player of the series award and helped him climb three places in the rankings.Kohli, on the other hand, dropped one position despite still being among the most successful ODI batsmen in world cricket. The former India captain held the No.2 spot for a long time, but his absence from the Afghanistan series was due to a right hamstring injury sustained during the IPL 2026 final between RCB and GT. His absence allowed Gill to move ahead of him.However, Kohli is set to return for the three-match ODI series against England in July, where he will look to regain the position by competing alongside Shubman Gill.
