And now actress-producer Pallavi Joshi recently revealed the gender pay gap that existed in the television industry in the 1990s. She said that despite being among the most sought-after actresses of the time, she earned significantly less than her male counterparts.Pallavi Remembers a time when he was an actor Shekhar Suman Considered to be the highest paid star on Indian television. Sharing an anecdote from that era, he said during a chat with IANS, “I will tell you there was a time when a magazine had a cover page with Shekhar Suman and me. I think it was because Shekhar Suman and I were the highest paid actors on television in those days.”However, he pointed out that even at the peak of his television career, his remuneration was nowhere compared to Shekhar’s. Pointing out the unequal pay structure in the industry, Pallavi said, “Shekhar Suman used to get twice what I used to get. Even though I was the highest paid television actress, I was paid half of what he was paid. That says it all.”Pallavi Joshi was one of the most famous faces of Indian television in the late 1980s and 1990s, earning acclaim for her performances in popular shows like ‘Mriganyani’, ‘Talash’ and ‘Arohan’. Known for choosing strong, content-driven roles, she built a reputation as one of the most respected performers in the industry. Meanwhile, Shekhar Suman enjoyed massive popularity at the same time with hit television shows including ‘Dek Bhai Dekh’, ‘Wah Jaanab’ and ‘Movers and Shakers’.On the work front, she recently garnered appreciation for her performance in the newly released series ‘Margao Files’.
