In a candid conversation with Variety India, Boney was asked how he first collaborated with director Bapu for ‘Oh 7 Days’. The producer shared an interesting and detailed account of how the film was made, revealing that it was not a smooth journey by any means. He recalls, “After ‘Hum Panch’, we developed a good bond. I often went to Chennai because I wanted to do my next film with him. During the discussion, we hit on an idea to create a love story. After working on it for months it still didn’t come to scripting. We worked hard on it, but it didn’t really excite us. Bapu was then offered a Telugu production, a remake of the 1981 Tamil film ‘Andha 7 Natkal’ directed by the late K Bhagyaraj. He invited me to come with him to watch some reels. There was still some work to be done. There was no intention to remake the film in Hindi then. After watching the film, I told Bapu that he should make it in Telugu, so he started working on it. I couldn’t get over the film. I wanted to buy the rights of the Hindi version, but Bhagyaraj was not interested in giving it up, because of his ‘Ek Hi Bhul’. Jitendra And Rekha had just become a big hit and she was probably looking forward to better prospects. Eventually though, I convinced him to let me remake ‘Andha 7 Natkal’ in Hindi.”
