In an interview with News18, he said, “His support means a lot. But what could he do? i was How can I chat with him? I could only talk to someone for five minutes a day. Five minutes is too short. It would have been over before it started,” he says.Explaining that direct communication was almost impossible, Vikram added, “I was nowhere where anyone could reach me. But he used to talk to my children, my brother-in-law and my sister-in-law.” Reflecting on Mahesh’s stance during the debate, Vikram said his mentor felt constrained by the situation. “But it was the law. And he was helpless. And somewhere, I feel, he held himself back because he knew it was a power play.“Mahesh deliberately avoided making provocative comments out of concern that it might worsen the situation. “He knew that there was no sense of justice in whatever happened. He was afraid that any provocative speech would only upset those powers and I might get into more trouble. So, he resisted. And that is the truth of the matter,” he added.The controversy was sparked by Vikram’s 2025 film ‘Tumko Meri Kasam’, inspired by Dr Murdia’s life. The project came under the spotlight after SEBI suspected Indira of promoting IVF during the fundraising stage. Just a week after the film’s theatrical release, Indira IVF withdrew its proposed Rs 3,500 crore IPO amid regulatory scrutiny from SEBI.The film itself failed to make an impact at the box office and received poor reviews from critics.When asked if the absence of support from the Bhatt banner contributed to the film’s failure, Vikram dismissed the idea. “Yes, it flopped. But I haven’t directed for special films in the last 12 years [even when Mahesh was associated with it]. Many of my hits like ‘Awara Pagal Deewana’, ‘Deewane Huey Pagal’, ‘1920’, ‘Haunted’ and ‘1921’ were not with them,” he says.Success ultimately depends on one’s ability, concludes Vikram, “The only cushion is your work. There is no other cushion. Any other cushion can be taken away from you. Your talent and your hard work are the only things you can rely on.”
