Captain of India Harmanpreet Kaur admitted her team had not performed to the level expected and said it was time for a “review” after their six-wicket loss to Australia knocked them out of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday. The defeat meant that India failed to qualify for the semi-finals despite posting 170 for four after being asked to bat. “We were in the game for a long time today, but I still thought we didn’t play up to our standards and as a group we need to rethink a lot of things,” Kaur said during the post-match presentation.Kaur, who scored a half-century, said India managed to post a competitive total but accepted that the team did not perform well enough against the stronger sides in the tournament.“I think at the end of the day we got a decent overall result. At one stage, I thought we were a bit lacking, but in the last part I thought I did the job for us.”“But we didn’t play well. Australia bowled well. During the tournament we didn’t play well against good teams. We have to improve against good teams,” she said.Australia captain Sophie Molineux praised Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner after the two added 100 runs for the fourth wicket to lead Australia to victory.“These two have been batting beautifully. The way the two of them use their wits, use their skills and target short boundaries and start the little things, it’s great to see the two of them come together and form a big partnership,” Molineux said.“We just had to hang on because things changed really quickly. Pez (Perry) said 170 was very, very tempting and her actions speak louder than words and she was good to go out there and chase it with Ash,” she added.
