Fighting, shoving and heated arguments
The trophy ceremony followed chaotic scenes on the pitch moments after Spain sealed victory.Video footage shows Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes shoving Spain defender Eric Garcia by the neck during a heated confrontation.When Spanish substitute Gavi stepped in to separate the players, Paredes appeared to push him to the ground.Spain captain Rodri also appeared to be punched in the stomach by Argentina defender Nahuel Molina before Molina and Nicolas Otamendi confronted the midfielder during a tense verbal exchange.Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni and several players rushed to defuse the situation before it escalated further.
FIFA opens an investigation
After the ugly scenes, FIFA confirmed that it had opened an investigation into the incidents.In a statement, FIFA said its “disciplinary committee has appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor to investigate potential violations (of FIFA’s disciplinary code) in relation to post-match incidents.”
