The filmmaker is fresh off the phenomenal success of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ Aditya Dhar May take up another high-profile project soon. Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sharma He revealed that he has approached the director to direct a biopic on the legendary Ahom commander Lachit Borphukan. According to the Chief Minister, discussions have already begun with Daar on the vision of making a Hindi film that introduces the Assamese hero’s legacy to audiences around the world.

Chief Minister praised ‘Dhurandhar’ director Aditya Dahar

During a Facebook Live session on Thursday, Himanta Vishwa Sharma praised Dhar’s filmmaking skills while explaining why he was chosen for the proposed venture. Referring to the filmmaker’s recent blockbuster, he said, “Dhurandhar was a big hit. Aditya Dhar was the director and he is one of the most recognizable names among his contemporaries,” PTI quoted.Sarma added that the government wants to showcase the extraordinary life of Lachit Borphukan through a grand cinematic adaptation. “I think if our government can make a film on Lachit Borphukan, we can make his heroism known globally. And it will be a special achievement for us,” he said.The Chief Minister also shared that the initial dialogue with Dahar has been encouraging. He expects the director to visit Assam in August for more detailed discussions about the film’s scale and creative direction.At the same time, Sarma clarified that the project will go ahead regardless of what Dhar ultimately dictates. “If Aditya Dhar can’t direct the film, we will approach other directors. The aim is to ensure a great biopic is made on Lachit Borphukan,” he said.The proposed film is part of the Assam government’s larger initiative to showcase the state’s rich historical legacy through cinema. In its 2026-27 budget presented on July 10, the government announced plans to support films based on the lives of Lachit Borphukan and freedom fighter Kushal Konyar.

Succession of Lachit Borfukan

Lachit Borphukan is revered as one of the greatest military leaders of Assam. He gained lasting recognition after leading the Ahom army to victory against the Mughal Empire in the historic Battle of Saraighat in 1671, preventing Mughal expansion in the region. Despite battling serious illness during the campaign, his leadership and courage have made him an enduring symbol of patriotism, with his memory honored every year through Lachit Day.So far, Aditya Dhar has not officially announced his next directorial venture after the blockbuster success of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’.
