Notably, this is the first S-Class to be offered in India with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a petrol engine with an electric motor for improved efficiency and performance. It is powered by a 3.0-liter turbo-petrol inline-six engine mated to an electric motor to produce 435 horsepower and 680 Nm of torque. Power comes from a 22kWh battery pack that Mercedes-Benz claims can provide up to 115 kilometers of electric-only driving range under ideal conditions.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission, and it can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. The S 450e’s 22 kWh battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 20 minutes using a 60 kV DC fast charger.
