Artificial intelligence will be part of classroom learning in all government schools in Punjab from next month, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Thursday announced the launch of a state-wide artificial intelligence curriculum that has been under development for the past year, PTI reported.The news was announced at the ‘Bright Minds Punjab 2026’ program organized at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan to felicitate Class 12 students who scored more than 95% in the Punjab Board Examinations. The event was attended by former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia, Education Minister Sonali Giri, teachers and students.
After a year of preparation, AI course is ready
Speaking at the meeting, Bains said the state government spent a year developing the artificial intelligence curriculum last year and is now preparing to introduce it in all public schools starting next month.He said the initiative aims to ensure public school students are exposed to emerging technologies and develop skills that will become increasingly important in higher education and future careers.
Government seeks students’ views on education reforms
Baines also said the program marked the first time the education minister and education minister had directly interacted with students to understand their views on the exam system, school curriculum and classroom teaching methods.The minister said feedback from students will be taken into account when formulating future education policies, giving students a greater say in reforms affecting the country’s education system.
Outstanding students are commended
This event recognizes the academic achievements of Class 12 students who have scored above 95% in their board examinations.Baines congratulated the students and said they are the future of Punjab and the country. He expressed confidence that many of them will continue to serve the country as civil servants, doctors, lawyers and professionals in different fields.
Punjab tops education index
Highlighting the educational progress of the state, Bains said Punjab has topped the education index in the country. He attributed the achievement to the collective efforts of teachers, students and the government, saying ongoing reforms have strengthened the country’s school education system.
Manish Sisodia stresses importance of AI education
Speaking at the event, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia said the progress of any country depends on the quality of its education system and stressed that ensuring quality education for every child remains the primary responsibility of the government.He said artificial intelligence is expected to create new job opportunities while changing the nature of many existing jobs. In this context, he said, students must be equipped with modern technological skills in order to be prepared for the changing world of work.Sisodia also called for reforms to the assessment process, urging authorities to eliminate cheating and promote science teaching methods in schools.
Sonali Giri urges students to contribute to society
Education Minister Sonali Giri encouraged teachers and students to work together to address pressing social challenges such as substance abuse, unemployment and shortcomings in the education system.She also made a pledge to students to uphold constitutional values, protect the environment and protect the country’s cultural heritage.
Focus shifts to future-proof classrooms
The launch of the artificial intelligence curriculum marks the latest effort in Punjab to modernize public school education.
