The wait for the return of Queen Rhaenyra and the Targaryen family is coming to an end. After the massive prequel series that has captivated audiences since its release in 2022, ‘House of the Dragon’ season 3 will air on Sunday, June 21.According to USA Today, the new season comes after what was described as an anticlimactic conclusion to the second season. Despite mixed reviews of the previous season’s finale, many expected the ongoing civil war to be an important chapter that forms the backbone of the series.
When and where to watch the new season
The third season will debut on Sunday, June 21 at 9 pm ET. Subsequent episodes will follow the same weekly schedule, airing every Sunday at the same time through the finale on August 9. The season will have a total of eight episodes.

Plot expectations for the upcoming season
Some plot elements have yet to be revealed, but the third season is expected to cover events from the source material, such as the Battle of Gullet and the growing conflict between two rival branches of House Targaryen. The ensemble cast returns for Season 3 of ‘House of the Dragon’
The cast will include both familiar and new faces for the upcoming season. Emma D’Arcy continues in the central role of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, while Matt Smith reprises his role as Daemon Targaryen. Olivia Cooke returns as Alicent Hightower, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Fabian Frankel as Ser Kristen Cole, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velarion, Harry Collette as Jacquerys Velarion, Bethany Antonia, Bella Targaryen, Tom Targaryen and Mee Targaryen. Additional returning performers include Fia Saban as Helena Targaryen, Sonoa Mizuno as Mysaria, Matthew Needham as Laris Strong, Phoebe Campbell as Rhaena Targaryen, and Jefferson Hall, who portrays both Tyland and Jason Lannister. New cast additions for the season include Tommy Flanagan from ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and Dan Fogler from the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise. The series has already been secured for a fourth season, which has received its renewal in November 2025.
