Kamal Haasan looks back on the promise he made decades ago
Speaking at the launch event, Kamal Haasan reflected on his decades-long friendship with Rajinikanth and the journey that eventually led to ‘Dharman’. As reported by Cinema Express, the actor-producer thanked the audience for their continued support and said they have played a major role in keeping his career relevant over the years. Recalling their early days in the industry, Kamal Haasan says, “He started after me, but very quickly, we became equally successful.” He then shared a memorable incident of a flight journey when both the actors discussed their future and made promises to each other.

Kamal revealed that they thought of stopping the film together as they received numerous joint offers. In that talk, they had a brainstorming session for a new idea. “We decided that one day we should produce a film for each other,” he recalls. Although the plan was unrealized for nearly 40 years, the dream has now come true. Kamal Haasan says that after the RKFI office reopened, he again discussed the idea with Rajinikanth, which led to the birth of ‘Dharman’ and another upcoming collaboration, ‘KHxRK’.The veteran actor described the moment as a special milestone in their friendship.

The actor also spoke proudly about how much they got together. “These two youths who once sat under a neem tree at AVM Studios have traveled so far,” he said passionately. Kamal credits fans for their success and added that none of them could have imagined reaching such heights. He also joked about Rajinikanth’s excitement for the project, saying, “Usually the producer runs while the hero relaxes. Rajinikanth didn’t let anyone sleep here.Expressing his faith in director Aswath Marimuthu and the entire team, Kamal Haasan said everyone is strongly supporting the filmmaker as he embarks on the journey of ‘Dharman’.
