‘Dharma war ‘ was one of Rajinikanth’s early hits
One of the most successful movies of the same title is ‘Dharma Yudham’. Released in 1979, this movie was directed by RC Shakti. The lead actors were Rajinikanth, Sridevi and Thengai Srinivasan. The music was composed by Ilayaraja and the film was notable for the popularity Rajinikanth gained in Tamil cinema. ‘Dharmathin Thalaivan’ and ‘Dharmadurai’ have become fan favourites
Almost a decade later, ‘Dharmathin Thalaivan’ was released in 1988. The film was directed by SP Muthuraman and stars Rajinikanth and an ensemble including Prabhu, Suhasini and Khushbu. The film was quite popular and was remembered for Rajinikanth’s dual acting and Ilayaraja’s music score. A few years later, in 1991, Rajinikanth headlined ‘Dharmadurai’ directed by Rajasekhar. Co-starring Gautami, the family drama became another notable addition to her filmography and enjoyed a successful run at the box office.

However, Dharman seems to be a completely new story, with the actor playing a stylish and deadly doctor.
