Even as “Jab Talaq” from Bagchi’s new release, “Cocktail 2” continues to gain traction, older tracks like “Sharrat” from “Dhurandhar” (2025) and several of his earlier songs have not lost their popularity. “It’s definitely a fulfilling feeling,” he told Mid-Day, about the tendency to typecast artists and his efforts to protect his craft in a business that relies heavily on a select few voices.

Asked if he received similar song offers after the success of that track and how difficult it was to break out of that trap, he said, “It wasn’t hard to say no to offers like that. The industry seems to put you in a box and then use it as much as you can until you do something else. Then they put you in another box. Is my song before tonight, [Nazariya Ki Maari] Everyone came and saw me as a classical singer. When Aaj Ki Raat released, people jumped from ‘she is a classical singer’ to ‘she sings dance numbers’. On how “Jab Talaq” came about, he said, “Jab Talaq was recorded after the first teaser of the film dropped. I’m happy with the way the female part was composed. Preetmada is a magician. Who wouldn’t want to work with her? It’s a dream for any artiste to sing a song composed by her.”
