A major update on the deep fake case comes as Bengaluru Cybercrime Police has arrested three people. For the uninitiated, it relates to the creation and circulation of AI-generated content involving ‘Kantara’ actor Rukmini Vasantha.The authorities initiated the move after fake pictures and videos went viral that allegedly depicted the actor in confusing situations.The India Today report says that officials have confirmed that the accused have been taken into custody after a detailed investigation into the content’s online distribution network. In the report, police said the materials were created using artificial intelligence tools.
Digital evidence was seized during the investigation
It is learned that cybercrime officials have seized three mobile phones from the accused. These devices are currently undergoing forensic testing to recover digital evidence related to the creation and circulation of tampered content.The investigation team is working to identify whether anyone else is involved. Officials indicated that the investigation is still in its early stages. As the investigation progresses, the possibility of more arrests cannot be ruled out.
The complaint was filed after the fake photo went viral
The case started after Rukmini Basant filed a cybercrime complaint. The complaint follows the circulation of AI-generated images that falsely depicted her in a swimsuit.The actor clarified that the visuals are completely fabricated and have no connection with his real identity.According to reports, the arrested were produced before a judicial magistrate and later remanded in custody. A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code (BNS).The issue was first raised in May when similar AI-generated visuals started circulating online.
‘Kantara’ actor’s scathing public response to X
After the controversy, Rukmini Vasant issued a public statement on her X account. He urged people not to engage with or spread manipulated content.“My team and I have seen some AI-generated images that are being circulated online and I am asserting myself. I want to categorically state that these images are completely fake and fabricated. The creation and circulation of such manipulated content is deeply irresponsible and a serious violation of privacy,” he wrote.“We are taking this matter seriously and are initiating necessary legal and cybercrime action against those involved in creating and spreading these images. We request everyone to refrain from sharing or engaging in such content,” he added.On the work front, Rukmini Vasant will next be seen in Yash’s ‘Toxic’.
