Captain of India Shubman Gill etched his name in the record books with a magnificent knock of 154 runs against Afghanistan in the second ODI at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The innings not only took India to a dominant 170-run win and an elusive 2-0 lead in the three-match series, but placed Gill alongside some of the biggest names in Indian cricket history.Gill’s 154 off 110 balls was his first 150-plus score as an ODI captain, making him only the seventh Indian captain to achieve the feat. With this, he joined an elite list that includes Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Kapil Dev and Mohammad Azharuddin.

Virender Sehwag still holds the record for the highest ODI score by an Indian captain with his incredible 219 against the West Indies. Rohit Sharma and Sehwag remain the only Indian captains to score ODI double centuries, while Virat Kohli is the only Indian captain to record two 150-plus scores while leading the side.

On a sweltering afternoon in Lucknow, Gill produced one of the best innings of his captaincy career. Coming in after the early dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal, the skipper first put together a valuable stand with Rohit Sharma before taking complete control of the contest along with Ishan Kishan.

The pair added a match-defining 224 runs for the third wicket as India piled on 402 before being bowled out in the final over.Afghanistan never recovered from the terrifying chase. Rahmat Shah fought hard with 79 but regular knocks from Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar ensured India bowled out the visitors for 232 in 44.3 overs.
