Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Sreekanth’ won the Best Hindi Feature Film Award at the 72nd National Film Awards. For Jyotika, this win is significant as ‘Sreekanth’ overcame budget constraints and other hurdles to reach this milestone. Talking to News18, he shared, “When a film fights every situation from budget to release date and still wins only because of its pure intention, craft and storytelling, it becomes a passion for the team. Tushar, Nidhi Hiranandani and T-Series (producers) have made this film to tell the most beautiful story from the heart of the most beautiful people in the world who have directly challenged society and its norms, not just an MIT student, A successful industrialist and can be so much more in life.”Jyothika described Rajkumar’s performance in the film as ‘brilliant’ and praised Tushar’s ‘vision and passion’ for taking on a bold story like ‘Sreekanth’. “I cannot be grateful enough and feel honored to play the role of Devika’s teacher, the woman who was the wind beneath Srikanth’s wings,” comments Jyotika. There’s also a personal reason why this win feels particularly meaningful to him. “This role is also close to my heart as it was the first Hindi film I signed after a gap of 25 years in Bollywood. It’s not just a national award but a passion for the team. It will be etched in our hearts forever,” he says.
Other Winners at 72nd National Film Awards
Meanwhile ‘Article 370’ won the Best Film award and Yami Gautam Dhar bagged her first Best Actress honor. Karthik Aaryan, on the other hand, won his first National Award, sharing the Best Actor trophy with Malayalam superstar Mammootty. Karthik was honored for ‘Chandu Champion’, Mammootty won for ‘Bramyugam’. The best director award went Rajkumar Periasamy ‘Amraan’, and ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ won the Best Popular Film Award for Wholesome Entertainment.
