After a disappointing T20I campaign, the focus now shifts to the 50-over format, with the return of several senior players expected to strengthen the visitors.
The biggest boost for India is the return of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, three of the team’s most experienced players in ODIs.
Their return gives captain Shubman Gill an almost full squad as India begin building their squads for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.
Rohit and Gill are expected to open the innings again. The two average 60.9 together in ODIs and will look to provide India with solid starts.
Gill enters the series in outstanding form. He has scored 373 runs in five ODI innings this year at an average of 93.3 and a strike rate of 117, including one century and three fifties.
Virat Kohli is also making a comeback with big milestones at hand.
The first ODI at Edgbaston will mark his 300th ODI innings, while another good run could see him cross 15,000 ODI runs.
The former India captain has also been in exceptional form in the format, averaging 123 in the last seven ODI innings since the start of 2025.
KL Rahul, who scored 139 runs against Afghanistan in India’s previous ODI series, is expected to keep the wicket while batting in the middle order. Shreyas Iyer should return to his coveted No.4 position.
