Twenty five years after the first release of ‘Gadar’. Amisha Patel Fans have come to terms with the fact that they will see her as Sakina forever. The actress recently opened up about how being a part of a landmark film can shape an actor’s entire career, finding it difficult to separate audiences from their most iconic roles. At 51, Ameesha reflects on the lasting legacy of ‘Gadar’ and why it’s almost impossible to avoid comparisons with a film that has left such a deep mark on Indian cinema.
Amisha Patel says iconic films define their stars forever
In an interview to India Today, Ameesha said, “Films like Ghadar come once in a lifetime. Take Mughal-e-Azam – it continues to define the legacy of its stars. Even today, when you think back. Dilip Kumar Or Madhubala, you think of Mughal-e-Azam. Nargis is synonymous with Mother India. Dharamji is first remembered for Sholay, and Shah Rukh Khan For Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. It’s kind of an iconic movie effect.”
Amisha Patel is on the opposite side of delivering a blockbuster
Ameesha believes that only a lucky few in the industry get to be a part of a film that truly becomes a cultural phenomenon. “There are certain films that not every actor gets. So, we are lucky to have this in our lives, that we have an iconic film to our credit. And for Sunny and me, not once, but twice. I reached that height with Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai as well,” he said. At the same time, he pointed out the flip side of delivering such a huge hit – that every project is measured against a huge benchmark that follows. “What happens is that people set the bar of expectations so high that even if you give hits like Bhool Bulaiya, Hamraaz, Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, or you come in Yeh Hai Jalwa with Salman, you give numerous successes, but there are always those comparisons because the audience wants it again,” he explained.
Amisha Patel said, ‘Gadar 2’ took time to break the record of ‘Gadar’
He was clear that holding every film to the standards of a generational blockbuster is simply not fair. “Now, every film can’t be a huge, iconic, blockbuster, path-breaking film. I mean, it took Gadar 2 to break Gadar’s record. So that’s what we’re talking about. How do you expect any other film to do that? It will be difficult,” he said. He also noted that audiences tend to retain certain characters and moments from iconic films long after they leave the theatres, drawing parallels with some of Bollywood’s biggest stars. “Even today, for Shah Rukh, when you bring him on stage, you still want him to do his iconic pose with his arms outstretched. You still love him as Raj. You still love kajal Like Simran. You still love Madhuri as the ‘Dhak Dhak’ girl. Till date, she is known everywhere as Dhak Dhak Girl,” he said. The actress added, “You still think of Hum Upke Hai Kaun..! and those iconic moments from the film. So with your stars, with your actors you love these things. You keep them in a certain place in your mind and you want to see them that way.”
Amisha Patel says Tom Cruise There will always be ‘top songs’ for him
Ameesha took her argument beyond Bollywood, pointing to Hollywood to show that this phenomenon is universal. “For me, Tom Cruise is always the top song. For me, Julia Roberts She is always a beautiful woman, no matter what she does before or after,” he said.
