Tata Motors There is a buzz around the upcoming Sierra EV, which is set to make its debut in India on June 30. In its latest teaser, the automaker showcased the electric SUV tackling huge sand dunes. A new teaser hints at the Sierra EV taking over Abu Dhabi’s famous Tel Moreeb dune. Standing 300 meters tall with an incline of about 50 degrees, Tel Moreeb is considered one of the tallest sand dunes in the world. If the teaser is anything to go by, Tata is trying to prove that it can combine the Sierra EV’s everyday utility with true off-road capability.The teaser also offers another look at the production Sierra EV. While the overall silhouette is similar to the ICE version, the electric version gets a few EV-specific styling updates. At the front, a traditional grille gives way to a body-colored closed panel that runs along the nose. Integrated LED DRLs sit atop the main headlamp units, while vertically stacked LED fog lamps are also seen.At the rear, the Sierra EV gets a full-width LED light bar, a rugged bumper cover and a silver skid plate. One of the biggest highlights confirmed by the latest teaser is Tata’s Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) technology. The dual-motor AWD configuration is expected to be reserved for the higher variants, while the lower trims are expected to get a single-motor configuration.On the inside, the Sierra EV is expected to be positioned as one of the most premium electric offerings from Tata Motors. Lower variants may get a dual-screen setup, while higher trims may get a triple-screen setup similar to the ICE-powered Sierra. Expected features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, cordless phone power, power tailgate and a 360-degree camera. Tata is also likely to offer connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support.The Sierra EV is expected to slot between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV in Tata’s electric vehicle portfolio. There will likely be multiple battery pack options, including 55kWh and 65kWh units, while higher-end variants could take the larger 75kWh battery pack from the Harrier EV. Tata may also extend its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to the Sierra EV, allowing customers to purchase the vehicle separately from the battery and opt for a subscription-based battery plan.Once launched, the Sierra EV will face rivals like Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
