Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is on the verge of making history. If India makes his debut in the first T20I against Ireland in Belfast on Friday, the 15-year-old will become the youngest player to represent India in international cricket, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.Sooryavanshi will be 15 years and 91 days old when he takes the field. Tendulkar was 16 years and 205 days old when he made his debut against Pakistan in 1989. The teenager got his chance after a strong run in recent months. He was the top scorer in IPL 2026, scoring 776 runs in 16 innings for Rajasthan Royals at a strike rate of 237.30.Just a few days ago, while playing for India A against Sri Lanka A, he broke the record for the fastest half-century in List A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls. As anticipation builds around his likely debut, Sooryavanshi continues to attract attention from across the cricketing world. His rise has already drawn comparisons with some of India’s greatest talents, and his selection could mark another turning point in Indian cricket. His debut would also end the teenage cricketer’s long wait in the Indian team. The last teenager to make his international debut for India was Prithvi Shaw in 2018.Shaw made his debut against the West Indies on 4 October 2018, in the first Test of the series and scored a century in that match. He became the youngest Indian batsman to score a hundred on Test debut.Since then, no teenager has represented India in international cricket. Shaw went on to play five Test matches for India before losing his place in the side.If picked against Ireland, Sooryavanshi will not only break Tendulkar’s record but also become the first teenager to play for India in this decade.
