Tata Motors is set to launch the much-awaited Sierra EV in India tomorrow, June 30. The electric SUV will debut in an all-new avatar and slot between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV in the company’s growing line-up of electric vehicles. Ahead of the debut, Tata has released numerous teasers revealing key details about the SUV’s design, cabin, technology and performance.

Tata Sierra EV: Everything we know so far

One of the biggest highlights comes from the latest teaser, which hints at the Sierra EV’s driving range. The digital instrument cluster shows a range of 424 km with the battery charged up to 80 percent. While Tata Motors is yet to release official figures, the display suggests that the SUV can travel over 500 km on a full charge. The latest teaser also revealed the interior in more detail. The Sierra EV features a modern dashboard and a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata EV logo. Another interesting addition is a special Boost mode that can be activated using a physical button on the center console. This feature is expected to temporarily unlock maximum power and torque. The SUV will also come with a multi-terrain mode. In one of the teaser videos shot at the Tal Moreeb sand dunes in Abu Dhabi, the driver display shows the Sand mode in action, showing that the Sierra EV has been developed to tackle a variety of road conditions.Tata Motors has already confirmed that the Sierra EV will be offered in an all-wheel drive variant. Higher variants are expected to use the company’s Four-Wheel dual-motor unit, first introduced in the Harrier EV, while lower trims are expected to use a single electric motor driving one axle.

Tata Sierra EV: Cabin and Features

The Sierra EV is expected to be loaded with premium features. The lower variants may feature a dual-screen dashboard, while the top-end variants may feature a triple-screen setup similar to the recently launched ICE Sierra. Other expected equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, cordless phone power, power tailgate, 360-degree camera, connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support.

Tata Sierra EV: Design

Externally, the Sierra EV retains the same distinctive silhouette as the ICE iteration, but gains a few EV-specific styling cues. These include a closed front fascia with body-colored panels, integrated LED DRLs, vertically stacked LED fog lamps, integrated door handles, aerodynamic alloy wheels and a full-width LED light bar at the rear.

Tata Sierra EV: Powertrain

The Sierra EV is likely to be offered with 55 kWh and 65 kWh battery pack options, while higher-end variants could pick up the larger 75 kWh battery pack from the Harrier EV. Fast charging capability is also expected to be part of the package, allowing the battery to be recharged in significantly less time using DC fast chargers.Tata Motors is also expected to extend its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to the Sierra EV, lowering the initial purchase cost by allowing customers to buy the vehicle separately from the battery through a subscription-based ownership model.Once launched, it will compete with rivals like Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara in India’s fast-growing electric SUV segment.
