its release victoryAfter the latest update on its censor certification and theatrical release plans, the film ‘John Noigan’ has entered another milestone. The much-awaited film has been in the spotlight for months due to delays. Latest reports suggest that the makers are now working on multiple claims before locking in the final release date. The movie’s release strategy has become more complicated with censorship processes and negotiations involving distributors and streaming partners.
CBFC suggests changes to certify ‘John Noigan’
As reported by FilmBeat, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave ‘A’ certificate to ‘John Noigan’ due to its violence, political content and religious references. A CBFC panel, comprising a few members and an examining officer, recommended some edits, muted some dialogues and wanted to change the name of a character played by Priyamani, as it corresponds to a real-life government official. The report also said manufacturers are expected to make necessary changes before applying again under Rule 33. It is also claimed that the final version will include the title card “The Honorable Chief Minister” next to Vijay’s name, apart from slight changes in the song and farewell audio launch clips in the end credits.
OTT platforms and distributors differ in release dates
The report also claims that the film’s theatrical release date is under discussion. While the distributors favor a July 24 release to avoid clashing with Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ and allow more time for promotions and theater scheduling, the film’s OTT partners are reportedly pushing for a July 16 theatrical release. The reason is said to be the platform’s plan to premiere the film after the end of the theatrical window on August 15 Independence Day weekend. The producer is expected to take the final call after considering both sides.
