Anjali Anand He is no stranger to online trolling, but ahead of the release of ‘Dhamal 4’, he is addressing it. In a recent interview, the actor spoke candidly about the body-shaming he has faced, the state of female-centric roles in Bollywood and why he refuses to let the noise affect him.
How Anjali Anand ‘Society Still Sees My Weight Before My Job’
In an interview with India Today, the ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ actress opened up about how conversations around female actors continue to fixate on their weight rather than their craft.“Yes, and I think it’s still happening because society still reflects that. Society still believes, and still sees my weight first before my work. So when tak oh hota rahega, tab tak main ye kam karti rahungi (As long as this continues, I will continue doing this work) to prove it wrong,” Anjali said.Anjali believes the industry needs to do more to create meaningful roles for women who don’t fit the conventional heroine mold.“There’s still a long way to go in writing better roles for women. That’s what I’m trying to do. The more people see me, the more their minds will open up. They’ll start believing that they can write something better for this actor, for this role – something that uses his skills rather than just his body,” said the ‘Bell Bottom’ actress.On signing ‘Dhamal 4’, he admitted that it carried its own emotional weight given the film’s content, “It’s a big upheaval because it’s a huge responsibility if you take on something, which you always stand against. Something that you know is not right. Something that should not be done in society.”He added: “But I thought it was still being done in society, and we were just showing society what their reality was. And if they’re offended by it, that means they’re doing it too.”The actor noted that appearance-based judgments in society extend beyond weight.“It’s not just about fat shaming. People shame others for being too thin, for the color of their skin, for not having hair, for how they look, what they wear, what brand of clothing they wear — everything. The day that stops, which never really happens, is what we can do to present these issues in a different light and show people what is possible.”Reflecting on the portrayal of women in mainstream Hindi cinema, Anjali notes a gradual but real change.“Things are slowly changing. Earlier, characters like Miss Mimi were only shown eating burgers, or Sweetu was fed a double chocolate frappuccino and a muffin. No stand was taken for those characters. But with Sweetu, things started to change. Then came Gayatri in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani, who for her”She added: “Women today have agency. They have a community behind them. They are given space, and they own that space. It’s a slow process because there are so many people in this country and the world, but change will eventually reach everyone.”

Reacting to the response to the ‘Dhamal 4’ trailer, Anjali admitted that she felt overwhelmed, albeit in a good way.“I’m overwhelmed with everything. I’m just hoping that everyone likes the film and things work out. I just hope I get a lot more beautiful parts out of it. And yeh jo vi golmal ho rahi hai mere bare mein (Whatever is being messed with me), it just turns out beautiful and turns out to be great for me,” she said.

Talking about the online trolling after the film’s promotion, Anjali revealed that the team was prepared for it beforehand.“We knew trolling would happen. We were prepared for it, so we didn’t take it too seriously. The more attention you give to trolls, the more they grow. If you don’t accept it, that’s life. Some get trolled, some can handle it, some can’t.
