Sanjay Khan’s wife Zareen Khan Died in November last year. When she married a Muslim and was born as a Parsi, she was cremated according to Hindu rituals. When people raised the question, in a recent interview, Zareen’s daughter, jewelry designer Farah Khan Ali, broke her silence on the matter. Zareen revealed the reason why she wanted to be cremated was that she wanted her ashes to be immersed in water. Emotionally opening up about his death, Farah said in an interview with Vicky Lalwani, “He was hale and hearty, he went to sleep at night. He was so calm that it couldn’t have been painful when he passed.” He added, “He always told us, I pray to my Sai Baba that when I go, he takes me to sleep. Although she was born a Parsi, married a Muslim, she asked us to cremate her as Hindus as she wanted her ashes to be immersed in the flowing waters of Kashmir. He was claustrophobic in a grave. This was one of the reasons why he wanted to be cremated as a Hindu. When he left, there were many unkind comments about why we were cremating him as a Hindu. I come from a family where we were taught to love all religions, observe all festivals. I can ignore trolls well. I’m an expert at ignoring trolls. At the end of the day, you only have so much time and you just have to focus on the people that matter and the people you love.” He also revealed, “At his prayer service, we had five priests from different religions – Parsi, Sikh, Hindu, Christian, Muslim all doing different prayers and then the children and we all talked about him. More than 2000 people attended his prayer service because he was so loved.” Asked how Sanjay Khan coped with Zareen’s death, Farah said, “I think men don’t take loss very well. My father was no exception. He also accepted my mother because she was always there and today I think he misses her deeply. But he is someone who keeps himself very busy because if he doesn’t keep himself busy, he can stop her now, because he is suffering from triple pain.” There 24/7 He didn’t take it well, he’s dealing with it like all of us.” He broke down in tears as he missed his mother and said, “I write to her, tell her about my day and what she means to me. I do that every day. She was my universe, my world. There will never be a Zareen Sanjay Khan. She had two superpowers, to love everyone and to forgive and forget.”
