According to the latest reports, King Charles will personally intervene to ease Prince Harry’s security measures and Meghan MarkleReturned to the UK. The couple are due to travel to Britain next month with their children Archie, seven, and Lilybet, five, in the family’s first joint visit in four years.According to The Sun, King Charles may incur additional security costs for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during their stay. Harry and Meghan will attend a one-year countdown celebration to the Invictus Games in Birmingham, a cause closely linked to Harry’s military service and his major charitable endeavours.
Security arrangements for the tour
The Home Office is claimed to have approved taxpayer-funded round-the-clock armed police protection for the duration of their stay. Despite an ongoing review of potential threats facing the couple, the government’s Royal and VIP Executive Committee has not changed its security assessment.A government spokesman addressed the safeguards: “It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on these measures, as this could compromise their integrity and affect the safety of individuals.”The unchanged threat level suggests that a “safe return” may stem from additional royal support rather than any reassessment of risk. Harry lost a legal challenge against the Home Office last year after the department downgraded his security status after stepping down from royal duties. Harry subsequently insisted that it would be unsafe to bring Meghan and the children to the UK without such protection.
Meghan Markle’s return to Britain
Meghan has not visited the country for nearly four years, with her last appearance being at the late Queen’s funeral. The family’s journey to Britain comes as Harry and his father continue to attempt to mend their fractured relationship. Last September, the pair met during a charity visit to the Duke at Clarence House, their first face-to-face meeting in 18 months. Although brief, the meeting raised optimism that reconciliation might be achievable.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to travel to Britain with their children Archie and Lilybet, in what could be the family’s first joint UK visit in four years.
King Charles and his grandchildren
Since moving to America, the king has only met his grandchildren on one occasion. Archie spent his early years in Britain while Lilybet was born in California after her parents moved across the Atlantic. The young princess has only visited the UK once, during her first birthday in 2022 at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.King Charles’s financial support, if true, is a big step towards reconciliation with his estranged son and could help restore more meaningful family ties at a time of crucial reunion.
