Vaibhav Sooryavanshi makes history, breaks 20-year-old record with fastest fifty in List A cricket

India’s teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi etched his name in the record books by registering the fastest fifty in List A cricket history during the Tri-Nation Series final between India A and Sri Lanka A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.The 15-year-old opener produced a stunning attack on the Sri Lankan bowlers after Sri Lanka A elected to field first, racing to his half-century in just 11 deliveries. In doing so, Sooryavanshi broke the previous world record of 12-ball fifty, set by Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne in 2005.A historic moment came when Sooryavanshi bowled Dulaj Samuditha, a left-armer, straight down the ground for his fifth six of the innings, bringing up an incredible fifty and rewriting the List A record books.Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s breathtaking innings ended with 94 off just 29 balls. Sooryavanshi looked set for a historic hundred before Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige struck the crucial blow. Trying to bowl mid-off, the young debutant mistimed a full delivery and was caught by Vijayakanth Viyaskanth. His sensational knock included 10 fours and 8 sixes, leaving the crowd to applaud as he returned after a remarkable innings that cemented India A at the top.
