Ramandeep Yadav says that losing out on a role in Vikramaditya Motwane’s ‘Black Warrant’ eventually led him to play Rajjo in Prime Video’s crime drama ‘Rakh’. Inspired, the actor auditioned for the same part Kuljit Singh (also known as Ranga), before taking on the role in the new series. Yadav now sees the earlier rejection as a turning point that landed him in a role he believes was meant for him.According to Mid-Day, Yadav plays Rajjo in ‘Rakh’, a fictional character shaped by the real-life Ranga-Billa case. The series follows the investigation into the 1978 Delhi and Starr murders But FazalAkash Makhija, and Ramandeep Yadav. Prime Video listed the show as an eight-episode crime drama set against the aftermath of the disappearance and murder of two teenagers.

Yadav said he did not see the lost opportunity as a shock after getting Rajjo. “Some projects don’t happen and you should be thankful for that,” he told Mid-Day.The actor added that he believes the role came to him at the right time. “Maybe I wanted to meet Rajjo. I believe that whatever is meant for me will come to me,” he said.Yadav had earlier auditioned for the role in the 2025 prison drama ‘Black Warrant’, but did not get the part. He later cast Rajjo in ‘Rakh’, which draws from the 1978 Ranga-Billa case involving the abduction and murder of siblings Geeta and Sanjay Chopra in Delhi.The show does not present Rajjo as a direct recreation of Ranga. Instead, it uses real cases as a starting point for its fictional narrative.

Yadav said he did not do extensive research into Ranga’s past while preparing for Rajjo. He explained that he wanted to avoid looking for factors that might soften the character’s crimes.“The moment you start doing too much research, you start finding justifications,” Yadav said.He added, “I didn’t want to know what brought him there because I wasn’t making a documentary on him.”‘Rakh’ is directed and executive-produced by Prasit Roy. The series also stars Sonali Bendre, Aamir Bashir and Akash Makhija. It is currently airing on Prime Video.Yadav’s comments place his role in ‘Rakh’ within a larger personal journey, from losing an opportunity to finding a part he now connects with more deeply.
