Music composer Tanishq Bagchi has opened up about what he describes as disappointing royalty payments for the title track of ‘Sayara’. The composer took to social media to share his experience, saying that the financial returns did not reflect the effort he invested in making the film one of the biggest musical successes.

The composer says that the song demanded his full dedication

Reflecting on the making of the title track, Tanisk said that he dedicated himself to every stage of the creative process. He explained that he was deeply involved in the production, composition, recording and overall sound of the song.He wrote, “I gave this song everything I had. From production to composition, working with lyricists and singers, recording, vocal tuning, sound, arrangement everything was important to me. I treat it like my own. Whatever YRF gave me, the nominal amount was used for live and mixing… what was left was zero, yes. That’s what I got out of such a big song.”According to the composer, the project required both significant time and personal commitment. He suggested that the financial results did not match the work level of the chart-topping track. Tanishq also claimed that the royalty statement available to him showed an income of Rs 8 lakh from the song. He said he found the amount disappointing considering the title track’s popularity across streaming services and digital platforms.He added, “The most distressing thing is, as per the royalty statement, I am yet to receive just Rs 8 lakh as royalty for a song that has millions of streams and views across platforms. Honestly, with the amount of work, time and passion I have put into this song, Rs 8 lakh seems like peanuts.” I truly believed that a song reaching this scale would generate a lot of revenue. I am not writing this for sympathy. I’m writing this because I know what I put into this song, and I know the sacrifices I made to bring it to life. This experience changed my perspective towards this industry. From now on, I will only work with producers and directors who value creativity, integrity and the people who make their music.”

YRF says the royalties were shared equally among the three composers

Soon after Tanishk’s comments, Yash Raj Films issued an official statement representing the matter. The studio clarified that Ciara co-wrote the title track Tanisk BagchiFahim Abdullah and Arslan Nizami. According to YRF, the royalty-sharing arrangement was agreed upon by the three composers before the release of the song.The production house has also maintained that every payment has been made as per the terms of the contract. The statement said, “The title track ‘Sayara’ was a beautiful collaboration between the three composers (Tanishq Bagchi with Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami). We are deeply grateful for their brilliance in creating a timeless song that has touched millions of hearts. The royalties for the title track have been shared and will be shared equally among all as per the agreement with YRF. Tanishq. YRF paid their dues to each associate as per the agreement within the mutually agreed terms and timing.”Although the composer questioned whether the royalties he received reflected the commercial success of the song, YRF reiterated that each collaborator was compensated as per the signed contract and that royalty payments would continue to be distributed equally among the three composers.Meanwhile, it was just two days ago when the ‘Sayara’ team celebrated one year of release.
